Inspiring Civic Responsibility and Community Engagement

The Community Outreach Program at Kimisagara YEGO Center is rooted in the belief that empowered youth must also be responsible, informed, and engaged citizens. Through civic education, volunteerism, and outreach activities, this program helps young people build strong community values, promote social cohesion, and contribute meaningfully to Rwanda’s development.

Key Components

1. Civic Education & Volunteerism

  • Sessions on leadership, patriotism, human rights, and national values
  • Engagement in volunteer activities that support vulnerable groups and local development
  • Youth-led campaigns on civic responsibility, peacebuilding, and good governance
  • Promotion of "Ndi Umunyarwanda" and unity-based values

2. Special Youth Community Work (Umuganda)

  • Active participation in monthly and thematic community work
  • Mobilization of youth for environmental cleanups, public space improvement, and local development projects
  • Strengthening youth ownership and responsibility in their communities

3. Outreach Communication

  • Peer-to-peer education and awareness-raising on health, education, and life skills
  • Use of drama, music, public speaking, and social media to spread positive messages
  • Participation in local dialogues and events that promote youth voice and visibility

4. Youth School Readiness & Library Services

  • Support for out-of-school youth to prepare for reintegration into the formal education system
  • Access to a youth-friendly library with books, digital resources, and study materials
  • Promotion of a reading culture through literacy campaigns and reading clubs
